In the collection of LeFort furniture we find the elements of art and precision reflective of the great eighteenth century cabinetmakers. The ingredients of design and proportion, rare woods, fine joinery, detailed carving, and a mellow finish, demonstrate our commitment to this rich legacy.

An important contribution to the finished elegance of our cabinetwork is the careful selection of woods. We make a painstaking effort to obtain the richly grained cherry and heavily figured curly maple that will assure the visual harmony of our furniture.
From rough boards, the cabinetmaker works the wood with scrub and smoothing planes to impart the subtle textures characteristic of early handmade pieces.
The trained eye and hand of the carver fashions the graceful cabriole legs with turner’s gouges, spokeshaves, and scrapers. Details sculpted by the craftsman such as relieved shell and fan carvings are integral to the success of the work.

The joiner’s art is the “cabinetmaker’s glue” that weds the form and the function of our furniture. Time proven techniques such as the dovetail, and the mortise and tenon joint produce the structural integrity in our pieces necessary for them to withstand generations of use. As seen in a row of finely cut dovetails, the joinery itself adds to the beauty of the completed work.
